For divorce, executive forges judge’s signature

A senior executive at a city export firm fraudulently ‘obtained’ an order in a divorce case by forging the signature of a judge to marry, for the second time, a girl of his choice. Anshul Grover, 36, the accused, is out on bail after serving two months in a jail. He allegedly forged the signature of a city court judge, the police said. His wife, Reema (name changed), who has been fighting the case of bigamy and forgery against him for more than two years, has alleged that Grover had stopped paying alimony.

Grover had sought divorce for marrying his colleague, a chartered accountant. According to Reema, the chartered accountant, a resident of Essel Tower on the MG Road, was her friend and had visited her home a couple of times.

“We have filed an execution petition, seeking alimony. But the summons sent by the court never reached him at his Dehradun address. We suspect he has been living in hiding in a different city,” said Reema’s lawyer Vandana Oberoi.

Anshul and Reema got married in 2001. They were classmates at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Mohali. After the marriage, they moved to Gurgaon as Anshul worked with an export firm at Ghittorni, near Gurgaon-Delhi border.

“Anshul was having an extra marital affair with colleague Shweta (name changed) and they both connived to forge the divorce decree to be able to marry in February 2009,” said the FIR.

According to Reema’s court petition, it was only in September 2009 that she found out about their affair and marriage. Reema has taken up a job with an HR firm to make both ends meet. “My paltry salary of R25,000 isn’t suffice. My husband had cheated on me but I have to move on. I now want alimony due to me and my daughter,” she said.

Anshul’s lawyer Sanjeet Vats, however, denied the allegations. He also denied that Ankur is in hiding. “My client will appear in the next court hearing on March 3,” he said. Anshul couldn't be contacted.
